On the <strong data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"723\">International Day of Education 2026<\/strong>, UNESCO highlights the theme <em data-start=\"753\" data-end=\"800\">\u201cThe Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education\u201d<\/em>\u2014a call to recognize young people not just as learners, but as partners in rebuilding inclusive, relevant and resilient education systems.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"1223\">Au <strong data-start=\"943\" data-end=\"973\">Impact Circle Germany e.V.<\/strong>, together with <strong data-start=\"989\" data-end=\"1017\">Impact Circle for Nature<\/strong>, this message resonates deeply with our work in <strong data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1086\">Melong, Cameroon<\/strong>, where conflict-affected children and youth are striving to learn, adapt and rebuild their futures under extremely difficult conditions.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1225\" data-end=\"1228\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"1230\" data-end=\"1264\">Why Education in Melong Matters<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1526\">Cameroon\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1277\" data-end=\"1298\">Anglophone Crisis<\/strong>, affecting the country\u2019s two English-speaking regions, has forced thousands of families to flee their homes. Many have sought safety in French-speaking areas such as <strong data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1475\">Melong<\/strong>, becoming <strong data-start=\"1486\" data-end=\"1525\">Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1528\" data-end=\"1575\">For children and youth, displacement has meant:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1815\">\n<li data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1631\">\n<p data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1631\">Prolonged school closures and interrupted learning<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1688\">\n<p data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1688\">Overcrowded classrooms or no access to school at all<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1744\">\n<p data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"1744\">Loss of safe learning spaces and qualified teachers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1745\" data-end=\"1815\">\n<p data-start=\"1747\" data-end=\"1815\">Increased vulnerability to child labour, early marriage and trauma<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1817\" data-end=\"2088\">In Melong, IDP children often learn in <strong data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"1905\">temporary, unsafe or overstretched facilities<\/strong>, while host community schools struggle to absorb the growing number of pupils. data-end=\"2150\">Our Response: Co-Creating Education with Communities<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2152\" data-end=\"2376\">In response, <strong data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2195\">Impact Circle Germany e.V.<\/strong>, in partnership with <strong data-start=\"2217\" data-end=\"2245\">Impact Circle for Nature<\/strong> and local stakeholders, is supporting the establishment of the <strong data-start=\"2309\" data-end=\"2375\">\u00c9cole maternelle et primaire bilingue int\u00e9gr\u00e9e de Melong (MINBIPS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2378\" data-end=\"2398\">The project aims data-end=\"4029\">Rebuilding Education After Displacement: A School for Hope in Melong, Cameroon<\/h2><p data-start=\"4031\" data-end=\"4175\">When families fled Cameroon\u2019s Anglophone regions, they carried little more than their children and the hope that education would one day resume.<\/p><p data-start=\"4177\" data-end=\"4274\">For many internally displaced families now living in <strong data-start=\"4230\" data-end=\"4240\">Melong<\/strong>, that hope has been tested daily.<\/p><hr data-start=\"4276\" data-end=\"4279\" \/><h3 data-start=\"4281\" data-end=\"4319\">Learning in the Shadow of Conflict<\/h3><p data-start=\"4321\" data-end=\"4553\">The Anglophone Crisis has forced the closure of thousands of schools. Children have missed months-sometimes years-of education. In displacement, learning often takes place in overcrowded classrooms, temporary shelters or not at all.<\/p><p data-start=\"4555\" data-end=\"4608\">Parents speak of children who want to learn but lack:<\/p><ul data-start=\"4609\" data-end=\"4724\"><li data-start=\"4609\" data-end=\"4630\"><p data-start=\"4611\" data-end=\"4630\">Proper classrooms<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4631\" data-end=\"4651\"><p data-start=\"4633\" data-end=\"4651\">School materials<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4652\" data-end=\"4689\"><p data-start=\"4654\" data-end=\"4689\">Teachers trained to handle trauma<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"4690\" data-end=\"4724\"><p data-start=\"4692\" data-end=\"4724\">A sense of safety and normalcy<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"4726\" data-end=\"4797\">Yet despite these hardships, families continue to prioritise education.<\/p><hr data-start=\"4799\" data-end=\"4802\" \/><h3 data-start=\"4804\" data-end=\"4834\">Listening to the Community<\/h3><p data-start=\"4836\" data-end=\"5133\">Sur <strong data-start=\"4839\" data-end=\"4857\">4 janvier 2026<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"4859\" data-end=\"4887\">Impact Circle for Nature<\/strong>, with the support of <strong data-start=\"4909\" data-end=\"4939\">Impact Circle Germany e.V.<\/strong>, met with displaced parents and community members in Melong. Together, they assessed learning conditions, discussed socio-economic challenges and enrolled children for the upcoming school year.<\/p><p data-start=\"5135\" data-end=\"5253\">Parents did not ask for charity.<br data-start=\"5167\" data-end=\"5170\" \/>They asked for <strong data-start=\"5185\" data-end=\"5197\">a chance-<\/strong>a school where their children could learn safely again.<\/p><hr data-start=\"5255\" data-end=\"5258\" \/><h3 data-start=\"5260\" data-end=\"5299\">A School Shaped by Community Voices<\/h3><p data-start=\"5301\" data-end=\"5440\">The result is the <strong data-start=\"5319\" data-end=\"5385\">Melong Integrated Bilingual Nursery &amp; Primary School (MINBIPS)-<\/strong>a project built on participation, resilience and hope.<\/p><p data-start=\"5442\" data-end=\"5458\">The school will:<\/p><ul data-start=\"5459\" data-end=\"5629\"><li data-start=\"5459\" data-end=\"5511\"><p data-start=\"5461\" data-end=\"5511\">Serve both displaced and host-community children<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"5512\" data-end=\"5562\"><p data-start=\"5514\" data-end=\"5562\">Offer bilingual education to support inclusion<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"5563\" data-end=\"5629\"><p data-start=\"5565\" data-end=\"5629\">Begin at a temporary site while a permanent structure is built<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"5631\" data-end=\"5740\">Importantly, youth and parents are not just beneficiaries-they are <strong data-start=\"5698\" data-end=\"5713\">co-creators<\/strong> of this educational space.<\/p><hr data-start=\"5742\" data-end=\"5745\" \/><h3 data-start=\"5747\" data-end=\"5815\">Impact Circle Germany e.V.: Connecting Solidarity Across Borders<\/h3><p data-start=\"5817\" data-end=\"6086\"><strong data-start=\"5817\" data-end=\"5847\">Impact Circle Germany e.V.<\/strong> supports this initiative by mobilising donors and partners in Germany and across Europe.
